Wind energy is a dynamically developing industry that offers environmentally friendly and cost-effective alternatives to traditional energy sources. One example of the successful use of wind turbines in Ukraine is the VEU-08, installed in 2005 in the village of Oseshchyna, Kyiv region. For many years, this wind turbine has been providing a private house with electricity, demonstrating the reliability and efficiency of wind energy systems.
Technical specifications
The VEU-08 is a horizontal-axis wind turbine with three blades, which has the following technical specifications:
- Wind turbine diameter: 3.1 m
- Monthly energy production: 120-250 kWh
- Start-up wind speed: 2.5 m/s
- Rated wind speed: 8 m/s
- Max. operational wind speed: 50 m/s
- Rated rotation speed: 310 rpm
- Stopping method: feathering
- Rated generator voltage: 24 V
- Rated generator power at 8 m/s: 800 W
The VEU-08 wind turbine consists of the following main elements:
- Tower: 12-meter steel tower that provides the necessary height for optimal wind capture.
- Rotor: three-blade rotor made of composite materials.
- Generator: synchronous AC generator that converts the mechanical energy of the wind into electrical energy.
- Charge controller: a device that regulates the charging of batteries.
- Batteries: batteries that store the energy produced by the wind turbine.
The VEU-08 wind turbine is a reliable and efficient device that has been successfully operated in Ukraine for many years. This example shows that wind energy can become a viable alternative energy source for private households, farms, and other facilities.
