In the autumn of 2004, a VEU-08 laboratory wind turbine was installed at one of the Kharkiv institutes. Its purpose is to research wind energy and teach students the basics of wind energy systems.

The wind turbine consists of:

  • Wind turbine: a small turbine that rotates under the influence of wind.
  • Generator: converts the mechanical energy of the turbine rotation into electrical energy.
  • Control system: collects data on wind speed, generated electricity, and other parameters.
  • Training stand: provides students with information on the operating principles of wind energy systems.

Research

The wind turbine is used to research:

  • Wind speed: wind speed data is used to assess the wind energy potential in the region.
  • Wind turbine efficiency: researchers study how various factors, such as wind speed and turbine type, affect electricity production.
  • Environmental impact of the wind turbine: researchers study how wind turbines affect the environment, for example, noise and vibration.

Training

The wind turbine is used to train students in:

  • Operating principles of wind energy systems: students learn how wind turbines convert wind energy into electrical energy.
  • Operation and maintenance of wind turbines: students learn how to properly operate and maintain wind turbines.
  • Data analysis: students learn to analyze data on wind speed and generated electricity.

The wind turbine at the Kharkiv institute is a valuable resource for research and training in wind energy. Its use will help Ukraine develop wind energy and become more energy independent.
